Nylon Insert Lock Nuts
Nylon insert lock nuts keep fasteners in place through the nylon insert in the center of the lock nut. The nylon piece grips tightly around the threads of a fastener and prevents it from backing out or loosening.

The nylon piece grips tightly around the threads of a fastener and prevents it from backing out or loosening. The jam nylon insert locknut is half the height of a standard nylon insert locknut. Add these locknuts where low clearance applications apply or behind a standard hex nut to prevent loosening. These are reusable but the holding power decreases with each use.

/Asset/lock_nut_2015.jpgTop lock nuts have a tapered top to prevent loosening of the bolt. This lock nut slightly distorts threads of the mating part to achieve the locking application. The mating part cannot be reused after application. Top lock nuts are commonly used in the automotive industry.

/Asset/1413-FJ1420TAZ.jpgK-lock or kep nuts are lock nuts with a free-spinning lock washer attached to it. This lock washer grips into the material surface that the nut is being installed on. Total height of the k-lock nut includes the washer.
/Asset/k-lock nut_2015.jpgA flange lock nut has a circular base flared out on the bottom of the nut. The base acts as a washer but does not spin like a washer. These lock nuts are used to cover a larger surface area or oversized holes. A larger surface area of the nut allows for less pressure on the nut making it harder to loosen or damage. Flange lock nuts are available in serrated and non-serrated. Serrated lock nuts form to the connected material better which prevents loosening. These work well with soft materials.

This ratchet pin moves along the threads as the nut is threaded onto the bolt and prevents the nut from backing off. The ratchet pin can be bent back so that the nut can be easily removed.
